I went over my grocery budget every single year for 7 years before I finally just changed the budget. 😂 I’m also 30% over on travel this year. At least the market is up!? 🥂
I suspect changing the budget is the only choice for groceries, but I have no idea where to take the money from. When we initially started planning our retirement, I was really confident in the monthly spend number I gave to our financial planner. But it seems like in the last three years everything has just ballooned in price. By about 30%!
If you have Flashfood app grocers in your area, it’s fun to use those discounted groceries as a kind of weekly list to plan around. In metro Detroit it’s a fantastic place to get large amounts of fruit and veggies, especially. Too Good To Go plays the same role for easy lunches at home.
I will check that out for interest sake. Unfortunately we live in a small but lovely town and there is one grocery store, and a lot of places don't deliver here. I tried to order a shirt off of Quince last night and was told that it was impossible to get a Quince delivery to my postal code!
Ah, I see. My parents are experiencing the same grocery increases in my very rural hometown. Thankfully there is a wonderful Mennonite store that sells largely in bulk in the area. Small town living has its charms; price competition just isn’t one of them.
